Stimulate auricular reflex points on a daily basis.
To do this, massage points with ear seeds very gently in a circular motion for about a minute or so. No need to be precise, depending on severity of symptoms or level of sensitivity, 20 seconds may be more than enough. Listen to your body. Do this two – three times each day or when you have symptoms. This stimulates the auricular reflex point as necessary to ease symptoms. Again, be sure not to overdo it, or apply too much pressure. This can inadvertently puncture the skin. Also, please use your judgement. If the auricular reflex point is sensitive to the touch, there is no need to rub them.
It’s okay to get the ears wet.
Shampoo, shower, bathe as you normally do. In most cases ear seeds will stay in place, as long as you are not scrubbing the ears. Ear seeds may fall off on their own after about three to five days. This is really dependent on skin type and lifestyle. Someone with oily skin, or sweats a lot may find the ear seed only stays in for three days.
Check ears daily.
Often ears will show redness and the auricular reflex points will feel a little sore. This means the ear seeds are in the right spots and doing their job. While having the ear seeds in your ear can be slightly uncomfortable at times, it should never be painful. Please use sound judgement and remove ear seeds right away if you see signs of swelling, infection, discoloration, or pain. It may be that we need to start off with a gentler treatment like Reiki or Reflexology before treating symptoms with Auriculotherapy a second time.
Sleeping and ear seeds.
It’s okay to sleep with ear seeds in ears. Even if you are a side sleeper, there shouldn’t be much discomfort. Pillows are usually soft enough to form the shape of ear and not apply much pressure. However, if you tend to rest your ear on your arm or hand, or sleep with a very firm pillow, this might be too much pressure on certain Auricular reflex points (mainly in areas with more cartilage). Again, this shouldn’t be an issue, just something to be aware of.
Remove ear seeds after 5 days.
To remove them, you can use tweezers or your nails to peel them off. Ear seeds are very unlikely to fall into the ear. Tilting your head while removing the ear seeds is a good way to safeguard this from happening. So, making sure your ear faces the ground while removing them. In the 10+ years I have been practicing Auriculotherapy, I have never had this happen or heard of anyone having an ear seed fall into the ear canal. In the unlikely event an ear seed does fall into your ear, please contact your healthcare provider as soon as possible.
Let your skin rest between sessions. Remove ear seeds at least 24 hours before your next Auriculotherapy session.
